Part 1: Things You Need to Know Before You Compete

Do you aspire to join a bodybuilding competition? If so, you should start preparing your body and mind to be committed before the competition. In this two-part series, we will be sharing tips to help you become more prepared as you embark on a bodybuilding journey. Here are some of our tips:

Go to a show

You may be inspired to join a contest because you’ve seen some pictures of models and competitors showcasing their stunning bodies. But the real world is in the show, so why not go and see it for yourself? The competition scene will make you more motivated to join and be prepared.

Find a coach to guide you

You need someone who will guide you throughout your journey from step one until your competition. Find a coach who will serve as your initial support. Typically, a coach will help you through phone, email, or other ways to give you some advice. A coach will check your figure and create a weekly evaluation or changes to your diet and workout routines–all these to achieve the best form that you can be.

A great coach will also provide constructive criticism and is not fond of sugarcoating when it comes to your performance. Choose a coach that offers a program that is more related to personal progress.

Know the costs involved

Your determination and perseverance are important factors that can help you win a competition. However, you should also be aware that doing this requires you to spend a significant amount of money. But don’t be discouraged. Instead, you can actually use the costs to be one of your motivators to give your 100% effort.

When determining the costs of what you’re going to pay, check the following:

  • Diet

Eat a lot of protein, lean meats, chicken, fish, eggs, and unprocessed foods. Staying on top of your nutrition can be quite worth a lot of money, especially when the prices add up.

  •  Supplements

Supplements may be needed to support strength, build muscle, and improve metabolism. However, some of them can be expensive. Examples of supplements that bodybuilders consume are multi-vitamins, protein, glutamine, BCAAs, fish oil, and more.

  • Show Registration

The fees for registration depend on the classes and which shows you’re going to compete in. Typically, they may start with $50 or $100 per class.

  •  Federation Registration

You need to become a member of a division in order to compete. The fees for each class division also vary.

  •  Suit

Suits can be expensive, depending on the material used. If there are high-valued crystals sewn in, that could jack up the price.

  • Tan

Bodybuilders need to be dark on stage, so be ready to be tanned during your competition. Tanning fees may range from $80 to $150 for each competition, so make sure to list down those fees as well.

  •  Shoes

You also need to get the ideal shoes for the competition. Usually, they cost from $35 to $50.

Conclusion

Besides your motivation, passion, and dream to join a bodybuilding competition, you should also have time and commitment. Be ready to spend more time in the gym to improve frequency and duration. Make sure you’ll have excellent time management for both workouts and meal preparation.
